Game species Cameroon
Bongo

The bongo is an antelope found in the rainforests of West and Central Africa. Both sexes have horns. Male bongos have a shoulder height of about 1.25 m with live weights up to 280 kg. The red to chestnut brown blanket is striking, with 10 to 16 white stripes on each side of the body. According to many hunters, the bongo is the 'most beautiful' antelope in Africa.

Our forest areas offer you an incredible game population of bongos and forest sitatungas with an excellent trophy quality.

The hunting season on Bongo is from April to July, because silent stalking is only possible during the rainy season. The bongo hunt with local trackers is almost exclusively stalking. Bongos are often in action after a downpour or when it rains continuously. When a fresh and promising track has been found, the trackers begin their impressive work and follow the trail in the dense rainforest. The dogs are released as soon as you are near the bongo. Then you have to be there quickly - a big bongo bull can't be stopped by dogs for long.

The habitat of the Lord Derby Elands are the savannahs and open forest areas of Cameroon. Our savannah areas are in the north of Cameroon, between the Boubandjida and Bénoué national parks. It is the largest antelope in the world with a shoulder height of about 1.50 m and a live weight of almost a ton. Both sexes have horns.

Our savannah areas are in the north of Cameroon, between the Boubandjida and Bénoué national parks. You can expect good game populations with interesting game species, such as the Lord Derby Eland, elephant herds, western roan, buffalo and many different antelope species that are only found in very few countries in Africa!

Hunting in the savannah is usually carried out as stalking. At dawn the camp is left with all-terrain vehicles and one begins to look for fresh tracks. Experienced professional hunters and the local trackers can judge this precisely. Age, gender, how old is the track, as well as the droppings are used for assessment. Based on this information, the decision is made whether to follow the animal or not.
